Mangalore, Jan 5: An attempt to break-in and loot the house of a home-alone woman was foiled in the wee hours of Sunday January 5. The incident occurred around 2.30 am at Alape, near Bajal here. The house is located adjacent to the road, close to Adarsha School.
The house belongs to Philomena Fernandes (57). However, on Saturday, her only daughter Zeena Fernandes (28) had come home from her in-laws' house with her two children
According to family sources, four unidentified men were trying to drill the window panel of the bedroom to get into the house. Disturbed by the noise of the drilling, Zeena's two children woke up and started crying. Zeena and Philomena too woke up to the sound and realized there was an attempt being made to break into the house.
Immediately, the women called up their relatives and neighbors over the phone and asked them to come to their house. They also called up the police. Realizing their game was up, the thieves fled from the scene.
By the time the relatives and the police reached the house, the thieves had escaped, said Reena to daijiworld.
