Eight workers killed in Goa building collapse


Panaji, Jan 4 (IANS): At least eight workers died, many were injured while some are feared trapped under the debris of an under-construction building in Canacona town, 60 km from here Saturday.

Police said a portion of a three-storey building, Ruby Residency located in the Chawdi ward of Canacona, collapsed.

They said bodies of eight workers had been extracted and added there were more than 25 people at the site when the accident happened.

"Over a dozen others were injured and sent to a PHC (public health centre)," police said.

The Army has been called in for rescue operations. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has also reached the site of the accident.
