Kuwait: Laughter riot at IYS event as comedy star Kapil steals the show

Kuwait, Jan 3: After the success of 2 seasons of “Dhoom Machale" dance competition, "Singing Superstar" a multilingual singing competition and "Jhoom Barabar Jhoom" a ghazal and qawwali show, Indian Youth Society (IYS)-Kuwait presented "New Year 2014 Dhamaal" on Friday January 3 at Dr Kamel Al-Rayes Auditorium, American International School, Maidan Hawalli- Kuwait from 6:30 pm onwards.
King of comedy Kapil Sharma performed live for the first time ever in Kuwait during the event. Renowned singer Subhasish Bhattacharya of Kuwait also entertained the audience with his golden voice.
The program started with video presentation about IYS followed by formal welcome by president Shabbir Qamar. After the rendition of the national anthems of Kuwait and India, Shabbir Qamar introduced the compere of the evening, popular Indian TV show anchor and actor Aman Verma. Sponsors of the events were honored with memento after a foot tapping dance performance by Kuwait’s well-known dance group D’Illusions. Kapil’s musicians Dinesh, Atul Pande, Rakesh and Rahul Tiwari were introduced to the audience. Visiting singer Teji Sandhu entertained the audience with some melodious songs to the live music.
Kapil made a grand entry after the introduction by compere of the evening, actor Aman Verma. The houseful crowd was overwhelmed with joy and Kapil's fans screamed at the top of their voice. Kapil with his entertaining humour did justice to their expectations. He thoroughly entertained them with his popular jokes specially on bachelors, married couples, police, politicians, old and new films, film actors, foreigners, countrymen etc.
Subhasish Bhattacharya sang popular Hindi songs from old and 70/80’s movies. He also sang some duets with local singer Julia Anil who rendered her smooth voice and entertained the audience. All the visiting artistes were honoured during the programme. A souvenir was released by Nepal ambassador to Kuwait Madhuban Prasad, Bhutanese ambassador to Kuwait Dasho Tashi Phuntsog, sponsors of the event and other dignitaries. Nadeem of IYS was honored for his hard work with a memento. All the members of IYS were invited to the stage. A momento was presented to the Indian ambassador to Kuwait Sunil Jain after which he spoke a few words on the event. He also presented a cheque of Rs 50,000 to Subhasish Bhattacharya on behalf of IYS as a charity to Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute Kolkata. Kapil Sharma was honored with a memento by president Shabbir Qamar’s mother.
In the second half Kapil entertained the audience with mimicry of renowned singers such as Jagjit Singh (ghazal), Bhimsen Joshi (Mile sur mera tumara), Hariharan (Tu hi re), SP Balasubrahmanyam (Aaja shaam hone aayi) and Anup Jalota (bhajan). The audience were mesmerized by his voice quality and similarity with original singers. At the end he also sang some fast numbers with Teji for which the crowd danced with Kapil. All in all, the whole program was a feast to the audience to begin the New Year with lots of laugh and joy.
35-year-old Indian stand-up comedian and actor Kapil Sharma was the winner of the stand-up comedy reality series, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge (Season 3) on Star One where he received huge acclaim for his stand-up comedy characters Lala Roshan Lal and Shamsher Singh (the Punjab police cop). In 2010, he won the Comedy Circus, Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars and Comedy Circus Ka Jadoo. In 2011, he won Jubilee Comedy Circus in a tie with Krishna Abhishek - Rajiv Nigam, Comedy Circus Ke Taansen and Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur. In 2012, he won Kahani Comedy Circus Ki in a tie with Krishna Abhishek - Sudesh Lehri on Sony Entertainment Television, partnering with Parvati Singhal, Shikha Singh, Ali Asgar, Shweta Tiwari, Sumona Chakravarti and others. His show "Comedy Nights with Kapil" became the biggest milestone of his career. In 2013, he was honored with CNN-IBN Indian of the Year Award in the entertainment category.
