Man held for smuggling ganja into Goa prison

Panaji, Dec 31 (IANS): A 30-year-old man from Karnataka was arrested Tuesday while trying to smuggle 120 gm of ganja into a jail here, police said.

Ravalnath Pawar, from Belgaum in Karnataka, was trying to smuggle the contraband into the prison while on a formal visit to meet an inmate at the Sada sub-jail, 35 km from here, police said.

The jail was recently in news after Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a junior colleague, was sent to the facility earlier this month.

A state government report on Goa's prisons recently indicted jail authorities for allowing drugs, mobile phones and even pornography to slip into prison premises.
