Mangalore: Dubai-bound passenger caught with Rs 10 lac at Airport

Mangalore, Dec 30: The officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Saturday December 28 late night arrested a passenger at Mangalore International Airport for trying to smuggle Rs 10 lac in cash to Dubai.

The arrested passenger has been identified as Abdul Rashid (40) from Bhatkal.

The passengers to Dubai were ready to board the late night Air India Express flight on Saturday when the officials of DRI received information about the smuggling attempt. The officials swung to action, and on checking, they found the money on Abdul Rashid.

He was immediately arrested and the money seized by the DRI. The currency notes were in denominations of Rs 1000 and Rs 500.

The purpose of smuggling the cash and for whom it was meant would be clear only after investigation, said the officials.

    I think the passenger is not confident to keep the money in Indian banks. So he must be carrying all the money with him whenever he travels.

    DRI should extract information from these passengers for whom he was carrying this money for and apprehend that person too, if he is from India.
    If he is from another country, then also helpful to know the purpose of their requiring Indian original currency.
    May be Bhatkal in Pakistan needs this money for his operations.

    DRI officials do not deserve any credit in this case as they got the tip off. The report says the passengers were ready to board the flight which means the passenger has crossed all security check points and it was not detected. Must be some money laundering or havala racket where the opposite party may have tipped the DRI due to rivalry or jealousy

    This person must be just a carrier for a free passage.There must be a group behind this racket. The perpetrators must be caught and given severe punishment. Family or guardian of this person also should be jailed. Crores of fake currency must have come inside the country and part of exchange must be going out as a reward.

    Mlore Airport should now start Terminal B & Terminal K for these graduates of Bhatkalgod institute of technology.
    Or at least Customs should have a separate channel as Bhatkal channel or Kasargod Channel in addition to their existing Red & Green so that other passengers should not face inconvenience while frisking them.

    Everybody might have surprised why this person carrying such a huge amount to Dubai. I can shed some light on this issue. Recent past our great Finance Minister Cheap Chidu levied huge tax on Gold import. Moreover in Gulf Countries all Exchange Centers are refusing to give more than 5 or 10 thousand Indian Currency. These two conditions made our Gold Smugglers so called Exporters started sweating. So now the modus operand is these Exporters contact almost all Travelers from Gulf Countries through Air Travel Agencies to carry 1 kg of Gold with them to Indian destination especially through Mangalore and Kerala Air Ports offering them with free ticket and Rs 25,000/- too. This is the gambling they are playing with Indian Customs Authorities like even if they catch one or two per flight but other 20 to 25 passengers are freely transporting their consignment.

    The real cash can also be used to buy fake Indian currency produced in Pakistan and circulated via Dubai/ Nepal/ Bangkok The parliamentary panel was informed that the volume of FICN smuggled into India in 2010 was between Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,700 crore, which went up to Rs 2,500 crore in 2012 - a rise of 55 per cent. This year, fake currency worth Rs 1,200 crore has already infected the Indian economy till July.
    All these money launders have strong links with Pakistan.
    Fake Indian currency is regularly printed in Pakistan Government mint

    @William Bantwal, cant say we have a good camera and customs.The passenger had passed already customs and waiting to board,and getting a tip they found Money.Either there was a helping Hand in customs or worker who handed over the Money.otherwise certainly he cant carry such a amount with him without in CCTV .or officer to hide.
