Music festivals go with drugs: Goa minister

Panaji, Dec 30 (IANS): Music festivals cannot be enjoyed without getting high on alcohol or drugs, according to Goa Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar.

"Music lovers feel that musical parties like Sunburn cannot be enjoyed without alcohol and drugs. We cannot stop them from enjoying," Parulekar told reporters on the sidelines of a tourism event here late Saturday.

A few hours before he made this statement, a man was arrested for selling 'charas' (cannabis) at Sunburn, a dance music event being held in Goa.

On the sale of drugs in Goa, Parulekar said: "There are restrictions I know, but it is difficult to control everyone. I have been all over the world. Drugs are freely available everywhere. Goa cannot be an exception."

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar earlier this month claimed that he would clamp down on music festivals if organisers failed to keep it drug free.
