Bantwal: Police bust illegal gas filling racket, arrest two

Bantwal, Dec 29: Sleuths of the district crime branch on Saturday December 28 busted an illegal gas filling racket at Sajeepanadu here and arrested two persons.
The accused have been identified as Ashraf (35) and Naufal (20), residents of Bastigudde.
An Omni car, an auto rickshaw, 14 domestic gas cylinders, 14 vehicle cylinders, two filling machines and a weighing machine were seized from the accused.
The raid operation was led by crime branch inspector Bashir Ahmed on Saturday. It is said that the accused were carrying out this illegal business from home for sometime. It is also learnt that they had links with a private gas agency which made their job easier.
The accused even filled old gas cylinders and sold them as new, said Bashir speaking to media.
The accused as well as the seized items were handed over to Bantwal rural police.
A police team led by inspector Nagaraj is investigating further. Sanjeeva Purusha, Chandra Adooru, Uday Rai, Tharanath, Iqbal, Palanivellu, driver Vijay Gowda, Vasu and Shridhar of revenue department were part of the raid operation.
