Suicide of woman, two kids at Netravati - Husband arrested in Delhi

Bantwal, Dec 28: In a major breakthrough in the tragic suicide case of a woman and her two children who jumped off the Netravati bridge in June this year, the Bantwal police have succeeded in arresting her husband in Delhi.
Mumtaz (25) along with her two kids Fathima Naishana (8) and Khatija Naifa (5) had jumped off the Netravati bridge on June 19 this year, reportedly due to family problems and harassment by husband. Ullal police had registered a case and later handed it over to Bantwal police.
Her husband Anwar Sadiq, a resident of B Mooda was arrested by the police at Delhi airport. He was brought to Bantwal police station on Friday December 27.
As per a complaint filed by Mumtaz's father, Anwar used to constantly harass Mumtaz mentally and physically. "Anwar had even told her that he wanted neither her nor the children, and that she should take them away and die somewhere," the complaint stated.
Anwar was employeed in Saudi Arabia. On December 18, when he landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, he was caught by the Delhi police who had kept a lookout for him. He was then handed over to Bantwal police.
Anwar was produced in court on Friday evening and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.
Mumtaz hailed from Hidayatnagar in Kallapu near Thokkottu and was staying at her husband's house in B C Road.
