Mangalore, Dec 26: Greeting the people of Karnataka on the occasion of Christmas and New Year, former union minister B Janardhan Poojary on Thursday December 26 expressed his concerns over the rising number of crimes in the district, especially against women and youth.
Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office, he condemned the recent incident of kidnap and blackmail of two medical students and said, "In coastal Karnataka, from the past many years there have been attacks on women. The recent incident in Deralakatte was barbaric and a taint to coastal Karnataka. This region is world famous for education. Several students from foreign countries and other states have been coming here for the purpose of obtaining quality education. In future, parents may be afraid to send their children here because of these incidents. This is indeed a black mark on our state.”
He further said, "I also appreciate the role of Karnataka police in arresting the accused within 24 hours and MLA U T Khader for taking appropriate measures. Don’t try to brand this issue as communal. There are rapists in all religions. All organizations and priests of all religions should condemn this incident.”
“We should respect women; respecting women is our main aim. This is the solution to all problems. This culture should be taught in schools and included in text books,” he added.
“BJP and Modi are speaking about the corruption of the UPA government and criticizing the Nehru family. They are also trying to root out the Congress party. The VHP, BD, and HJV are criticizing the Congress. Also there is a new organization called NaMo Brigade. There are several flexes of Narendra Modi in many villages. From where have they got money for these? They bring crowds in buses and trains. Even we know to bring people. Give me Rs 10 crore, I will bring 10 lac people. Don’t think no one will raise a voice, I will. Congress Party is still alive. The Congress has protected this country. Poojary will raise his voice against injustice. Even if a 100 Modis come you cannot finish Congress. You have divided this peaceful society,” he lashed out.
He also said that during his tenure as MP he brought various projects to the district.
When a journalist questioned on the government’s inefficiency in curtailing moral policing by Hindu and Muslim fundamentalist organizations, all he said was, “Government is taking proper measures in this regard.”
