Mangalore, Dec 26: Minister for health and family welfare U T Khadar, who is also the MLA of Mangalore constituency (Ullal), said that there was no question of protecting the culprits involved in the recent kidnap case at Deralakatte wherein two students were forced into having sex, filmed and blackmailed by a group of eight men.
Addressing reporters at the circuit house here on Thursday December 26, he warned that if there was any complaint from the public that any police officer or personnel dealing with the case was not doing his duty properly, strict action would be taken and the policeman would not be spared.
"As soon as I got news of this incident, I rang up the ACP and ordered him to take up thorough investigation and stringent steps to maintain law and order in the region. These sort of incidents indeed bring bad names to our district," he said.
Refering to former CM D V Sadananda Gowda's statement on the issue that law and order in the coastal region had worsened under Congress rule and that officials have been unable to discharge their duties efficiently due to political pressure, he said, "Strict legal action has already been taken against the accused, but a few of the opposition leaders, especially the former CM who happens to be from our district has been passing unwanted and false statements in this regard. Please do not bring politics into this matter as the investigation has been carried out very well. By passing such comments, you people (opposition) are exposing your own incompetence," he said.
"We do not want leaders of our district to look like jokers. Hence it is not advisable to bring politics into this matter. We must condemn this issue and not give it a political colour," he added.
"The police department must be strict to the extent that wrongdoers get scared when they hear the name of police. Incidents of moral policing too have been increasing in the district, and the issue will be taken seriously. I have directed the police officers to register a suo moto case if any such incident takes place," he added.
