Udupi: Chapter on Sri Narayana Guru to be part of school syllabus

Udupi, Dec 23: Udupi district incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake has said that a brief biography of world renowned social reformer Brahmashree Narayana Guru will be made part of school syllabus from next year. He was speaking here on Sunday December 22 after flagging off a procession carrying a rock statue of the saint as part of the renovation of Katapady Vishwanatha Kshetra. The statue was donated by former minister Vasant V Salian who is also the president of Kshetra renovation committee.
The minister said that he has discussed with the chief minister regarding the inclusion of the biography so that the new generation may know the life history, message and his way of thinking. He lauded the efforts of the holy person who drove away discrimination among people.
The minister added that an amount of Rs 50 lacs have been released for the development of Katpadi Vishwanatha Kshetra. Besides that an amount of Rs 3 crore grant will be released for the Samudaya Bhavan, he said.
Former union minister Janardhan Poojary, who has been responsible for the development of the Kshetra spoke and said that Kudroli Gokarnanatha Kshetra and Katapady Vishwanath Kshetra are like two eyes and added that Vishwanatha Kshetra should also be developed like the Gokarnanatha Kshetra.
Vikhyatananda Swamiji of Karkala Balyottu Gurukripa Sevashrama, Jaya C Suvarna, president of Bharath Cooperative Bank and honorary member of Vishwanatha Kshetra, Kota Srinivas Poojary, former minister, Ashok M Suvarna, president of Vishwanatha Kshetra development committee, Harishchandra Amin, honorary chief secretary, office bearers of Kshetra renovation committee, office bearers of various Billava associations, gurikars and office bearers of various women’s organizations participated in the meeting.
