Kundapur: Lokayukta officials raid port engineer's house, unearth wealth

Kundapur, Dec 20: Lokayukta officials on Friday December 20 morning raided the residence of Narayana M Kharvi, assistant executive engineer at Udupi ports and fisheries department and seized cash, jewellery and records of properties held by the official. The house is located at Cheepanbettu beside Beejady road.
The Lokayukta officials are said to have been observing Kharvi's movements as they suspected him of having amassed illegal wealth.
Kharvi is said to be in service for the last thirty years and Lokayukta had received complaints that he had illegal wealth.
During the raid, the Lokayukta team found that he owned a luxury villa at Beejadi, land sites at different places, accounts in several banks, two boats and partnership in two boats.
The raid which started at 6 am is expected to go on till evening. The team consists of 18 members led by S P Vedamurthi, DySP Umesh Shet, inspector Mohan Kothari and Dilip Kumar.
The officials have so far seized Rs 1.79 lac in cash, gold and silver jewellery and important documents.
