Wagh, a legislator from St. Andre assembly constituency, escaped with minor injuries when his official car was stoned and attacked with metal bars at Thivim village, 20 km from here, when he was returning from the event organised by Nationalist Congress Party state president Nilkanth Halarnkar.
"The assault was carried out by my own party's workers. They were objecting to my attending the cultural programme organised by the NCP chief," Wagh said.
Tension has been simmering between Wagh and the BJP after reports began to surface about the increasing proximity the legislator and the NCP leadership ahead of the Look Sabha polls.
Wagh, in recent times, has also been critical of the BJP.
