Kolkata, Dec 13 (IANS): "Why are women scared in our society?", "Why is there violence against women?" "Is that what we are looking at as a country?" Two short films, aimed to make audiences think on such questions and the status of women in the country, were launched here Friday.

The films, in English, each of one minute duration will be screened across all metro railway stations in the city. They will also be shown in the Howrah and Sealdah railway stations here.

Developed by Eastern Railway and the Acid Survivors Foundation India (ASFI), the thought-provoking videos will focus on all forms of violence against women including an insight into acid attacks.

"It will portray all forms of violence against women with a little emphasis on acid attacks," Rahul Verma, ASFI national director and CEO, told IANS.

National Award-winning filmmaker Ashok Viswanathan has produced and directed the films.

Targeted to inculcate respect for women in society, the visual will be subsequently beamed across all platforms, including cyberspace and television.

"Later on, it will be shown in regional languages and as fillers in cinema halls between the screenings," said Verma.
