Thalaiva: Superstar Rajinikant - 63 and still going strong!

Mumbai, Dec 12: Superstar Rajinikant turned 63 today and is reported to be having a quiet celebration at his home in Bangalore with friends and family. Rajinikant or as his fondly called 'Thalaiva'  has carved a special place for himself in the hearts of movie-lovers around the world. He is revered in South India and his many movies in the Hindi movie industry have made him a strong favourite with the audiences there too. Having shared screen space with Kamal Hassan, Amitabh Bachchana and many more of his contemporaries, Rajnikant has managed to not fade into the wood work but to stand out with his own personal style, dialogue delivery and an individual relation with his audiences.

Rajinikant, who was born as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad and is also called Rajini, wields the power to draw scores of audiences by the mere mention of his involvement in a project. His movies and actions are widely imitated and enjoyed by people from all walks of life. His magnificent persona seems to burn all the more when people come to realise that underneath all the glitter and glamour of stardom, he continues to live a simple life. He does not cater to any of the tantrums or the expensive lifestyle that is synonymous with people who have shared similar status.

Having started off a bus conductor, Rajini was introduced to the glare of the lights and the magic of the camera lens by K Balachander when he was cast beside Kamal Hassan.  He has worked across various genres of cinema and with a plethora of big and small names in the industry, from Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He has had many of his movies made in the south, dubbed into various vernaculars so  audiences could enjoy it irrespective of their own lingo. His movie Robot with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was a major hit for the unparalleled graphics and it went on the set the bar pretty high for other movies that wished to showcase similar techniques. He has innumerable hit movies to his credit and his fans and audiences eagerly await his upcoming movie 'Konchadaiiyaan' opposite Deepika Padukone.

A star of the masses, Padma Bushan recipient Rajinikant, has inspired many a good deed as well as promoted excellence in his field of work. Here's wishing him a very Happy Birthday and looking forward to many more years of entertainment from the accomplished and unparalleled actor.
