New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS): The Delhi High Court has directed six men to do community service by donating a unit of blood each to the Red Cross while quashing an FIR registered against them 11 years ago for beating up a student who protested their "ragging" of a fresher in a college here.

Justice J.R. Midha, while asking the six men to donate blood, also imposed a fine of Rs.15,000 on them in a recent judgment.

Public prosecutor M.P. Singh, however, had opposed the plea of the six men saying the FIR should not be quashed like this and at least they should asked to do community service so that they can realise their mistake.

The court's direction came on a plea seeking quashing of FIR registered against the six men for causing injuries to Arun Tyagi, who tried to stop them from ragging a fresher while they were studying in Ramjas College of Delhi University.

As per the FIR, on July 30, 2002, Tyagi saw few students harassing and ragging a fresher in the college premises, and when he objected to it, they beat him up with hockey sticks.

On the same day, a complaint was lodged with Maurice Nagar police station against the six - Chirag Kharbanda, Sudhir Sharma, Krishna Kant, Sunil Patwal, Chetan Khosla, Brijesh Tripathy.

The six men now moved the high court saying the matter has been settled amicably between them and complainant Tyagi.

They told court that they are facing the agony of accusation for almost 11 years and have suffered a lot and there are no chances of repeating the alleged offenses by them.
