Islamabad, Apr 12: A senior Pakistani Air Force (PAF) official has been relieved of his duties after he refused to cut his long beard in violation of rules.
A penal action was taken against squadron leader Moshin Hayat Ranjha for violation of the PAF code and disobedience of orders, Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Tanveer Hussain Syed said, replying to an adjournment motion moved by the Opposition in the National Assembly on Monday.
The squadron leader was relieved for inciting others to wear long beard.
Syed did not respond to allegations that four other pilots had been grounded for non-compliance. The new dress code bars officers from wearing long beard for safety reasons.
Syed, however, said the ban was enforced on pilots as the long beard was found to be a flying hazard, but there was no bar on short, trimmed beard.
