New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS): Rejecting the sting operation against some of its leaders, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Friday said the tapes were doctored and it was mulling legal action against the organisation who carried it out.
The sting carried out by a media organisation, Media Sarkar, was released Thursday and showed AAP leaders, including Shazia Ilmi, candidate from south Delhi's R.K. Puram, accepting donations without proper verification, days ahead of the Dec 4 Delhi assembly polls.
"Last night we were promised by Media Sarkar that they would hand us the raw footage of the stings so that we can examine them, but now have refused. We are convinced that these tapes are doctored," AAP leader Yogendra Yadav told reporters here.
"Our candidates interacted at length with the reporters carrying out the sting but in the clip only a few minutes' footage is shown," he added.
Yadav gave the media organisation time till 3 p.m. to produce the original tapes, and said failing this the party could take legal action against the organisation.
"If this is a conspiracy, then action will definitely be taken," he said.
Yadav also promised that if anyone from AAP was found guilty, he/she "will step down".
