Delhi polls: Dikshit star campaigner for Congress

New Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will be the star campaigner for the Congress and the "achievements" during her 15 years of rule will be highlighted in the party campaign for the Dec 4 polls.

The 87-member election campaign committee met here Thursday for the first time to draw up the strategy for the polls which are less than two weeks away.

"In the coming days, the party will highlight the achievements under our chief minister who has ruled Delhi for the past 15 years," said a campaign committee member.

Besides, the party has also asked all its candidates to put in their requests for campaigners in their respective constituencies.

He said, "We will tell people that BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan is not at all concerned about the plight of poor. He never raised any questions about poor in Delhi assembly."

The incumbent party will also talk about the salient features of Congress' manifesto, released Wednesday.

"We have to tell people that it's the Congress government which gave them Metro, flyovers and round-the-clock power supply," the member said.

But the low turnout at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's Nov 17 rally at Ambedkar Nagar in south Delhi has got the party worried.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are to address rallies in the national capital Nov 24 and 27, respectively.
