New Delhi, Apr 11: The Election Commission gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the BJP allegation that he had announced a financial package during electioneering in Assam.
"The Commission has examined the issue in detail. It did not find any evidence of substance as the speech of the Prime Minister did not contain any specific announcement of a financial package," EC spokesman R Bhattacharya told reporters when asked about the EC action on the allegation.
BJP had petitioned the Commission alleging Prime Minister had announced a Rs 602-crore package for the state at a public meeting during the first phase of elections in the state last week.
