Rs.38 lakh looted in Ghaziabad


Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) Nov 20 (IANS): Armed robbers looted Rs.38 lakh belonging to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) from a vehicle in Loni town of Ghaziabad district in Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday.

A security guard who tried to resist was injured by the robbers.

Police said UPPCL cashier Suresh Rawat, along with driver Sanjay and security guard Uma Shankar, was on his way to deposit the cash in the local branch of the Punjab National Bank. The Ambassador car in which they were travelling was stopped by four armed men who stopped their two motorcycles in front of the vehicle at Mustafabad in Loni.

The robbers then snatched the bag containing the cash. As the security guard resisted the robbery, the armed men struck him on the head with the butt of a gun and fled.

The injured guard was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital in Delhi where doctors said he was out of danger.

"We have registered a case and attempts are being made to nab the criminals," a police official said.
