Beltangady accident: Car driver arrested, charged with murder

Beltangady, Nov 20: In a dramatic development in the accident case that took the life of a youngster near Nekkilu here on Wednesday November 20, the Beltangady police have arrested the driver of the Bolero and charged him with murder and rash driving.

Balakrishna Poojary, who was driving the Bolero, was arrested by the police in the evening and booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 302 (murder) of IPC.
Sources said that Dinesh Gowda (23), the youngster who was killed in the accident, was close to Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi of Praja Prabhutva Vedike.
The arrest was made on the complaint filed by Siddappa Gowda of Koyyur.
As soon as accident took place, hundreds of people gathered at the spot and launched a flash protest and damage the Bolero. Police who arrived at the spot had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the mob. Balakrishna had fled the spot soon after the accident.

Beltangady, Nov 20: A 23-year-old youth died in a ghastly road accident after a Bolero car rammed into his bike near Nekkilu here on Wednesday November 20.
The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Gowda (23), son of Babi Gowda from Kangittilu in Koyyur.
As per the information obtained, Dinesh was riding from his house to work at Nala near Gerukatte when a Bolero car driven by Balakrishna Poojary, a resident of Baje in Koyyur, rammed into his bike. Dinesh suffered from severe injuries and died on the spot.
As soon the incident took place, several people rushed to the spot and blamed Balakrishna for the accident. However, Balakrishna escaped from their hands, it is learnt.
Sources said hundred of people gathered at the spot and damaged the Bolero car. They even protested right in front of Dinesh's body. The declared that they would not move the body until Balakrishna and higher police officers came to the spot.
When the ambulance reached the spot to shift the body to hospital, the mob pelted stones at it too. The people were angry at the Bolero driver for escaping instead of shifting Dinesh to hospital immediately, they said.
Police from Beltangady, Venur, Punjalkatte, Uppinangady and Dharmasthala arrived and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
MLA Vasanth Bangera and Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi of Praja Prabhutva Vedike too arrived and tried to pacify the angry mob.
Finally, after a long time, the body was shifted to Wenlock hospital in Mangalore.
Among the two sons and a daughter of Babi Gowda, the elder son had accidentally drowned about two years ago. The daughter is married. Now with the death of the younger son, a pall of gloom has descended over the family. Dinesh was employed as a mason at Nala.
Balakrishna Poojary who was driving the Bolero is a supervisor in the agricultural department in Dharmasthala.
Beltangady police have registered a case.
