Mangalore, Nov 15: Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV), DK unit staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office condemning the visit of BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to Bangalore scheduled on November 17.
Addressing the protestors, lecturer Dr Bhoomi Gowda said, “We do not belong to any party, but we are against Narendra Modi for he is a fascist. We need communal harmony in the country. Peace should prevail. It is the public who should choose the Prime Minister, however, the BJP has done it much in advance only to spoil the harmony among people.”
He added, "Pigeon is the symbol of peace. But what do we see in the flex banners of Narendra Modi? We see the images of lion and tiger in the banners promoting Modi as the prime ministerial candidate. What does it suggest? We are peace loving people. But today, the element of fear is prevalent among the people. There is hate politics. Hindutva is meticulously used to lure voters."
Ali Hasan of Central Muslim Committee, Mangalore said, "We have come together not in fear of Modi but to oppose his candidature. We are progressive thinkers. We do not want a communal leader to represent the country worldwide. Even L K Advani could not become the Prime Minister of the country as he too pledged by Hindutva. The PM candidate must be am inclusive leader.
"However, the government officials are not taking action against the banners, and neither are the media talking about it. The banners are put up everywhere. Why are only they given permission?" he questioned.
Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, district president of the Vedike said, “The 'development model of Gujarat' propaganda is nothing but fooling the public. The entire Gujarat is not developed. The state is far behind other states. Moreover, Modi has hired a foreign public relation agency to lure fresh voters. The farmers, women and children are neglected in his “development model”, but only the big corporates enjoy all the subsidized facilities from the government,” he said.
P B D’Sa, state president of People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) also spoke on the occasion. The protestors also carried an effigy to symbolically express their opposition to his upcoming visit.
