New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS): In a bid to capture the booming potential of the plumbing industry in the construction area, the government Thursday urged the sectoral players to implement unified building codes evolved by the Indian Plumbing Association.
"There should be a consultative process to evolve mechanisms which are missing today," said T.K.A. Nair, advisor to the prime minister, at the tenth world plumbing conference being organised here.
"It is hard for such initiatives to come from the government and the industry should take systematic efforts to make the codes applicable."
According to Nair that there was a need to address the future aspects of the industry as the construction materials are getting scarce.
“We have to focus on research to develop alternative materials with the help of the advances in the science and technology."
The two-day conference, which has a theme of ‘environment, health and hygiene and the role of plumbing industry’, is being attended by nearly 600 professionals from across the world here.
