Bengal will soon generate all its own electricity: Mamata

Kolkata, Nov 13 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday said the state will become "more than self-sufficient" in power generation in three years.

Addressing industrialists at an event here, the chief minister conceded that there were some problems with regard to land availability for industrial projects, but said "it has been taken care of".

"Within two and a half years (of taking the reins of the state) we have set up power banks," she said.

Banerjee said there was no shortage of power in the state. "Within three years, the state will be more than self sufficient in terms of power generation," she said.

Speaking at a special plenary session of BizBridge Engineering and Manufacturing Expo organsied by the CII here, Banerjee said the state had become an important investment destination.

"From here, you can expand your business not only to other states like Jharkhand, Manipur, Bihar and Tripura, but also to neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bhutan," she said.
