Beltangady: Two persons arrested for raping minor

Beltangady, Nov 13: A case was registered in Beltangady police station on Tuesday November 12 against two men for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl from Mittabagilu.
Santhosh T V (43) from Bajathottu house, near Kukkavu bridge and jeep driver Jagadish (25) were arrested in this regard.
Before their arrest, a few locals attacked the accused and damaged a car, and hence a counter complaint was also filed.
Rape at Santhosh's house
The girl’s mother and grandmother had been to town and her brother had gone to school. Hence at around 3 pm the girl went to her neighbour Santhosh’s house with the intention of talking to his wife but learnt that she had left for Bangalore.
Santhosh is then said to have locked the girl in a room and raped her.
Rape by another man
As per the information obtained, after the girl escaped from Santhosh and was going towards her house, Jagadish, who the girl was familiar with, stopped his car and offered her a lift. However, instead of dropping her home, he took the girl to a rubber farm near Dhidupe where he allegedly raped and threatened her.
Attack
Jagadish was bringing back the girl in his car, when the girl’s uncle and a few locals who were searching for her gathered around the car and attacked them. The girl was also attacked and the car was damaged.
The girl in her complaint with the Beltangady police accused the two men of raping her.
Similarly, Jagadish also filed a complaint against the attackers.
Puttur zone DySP H D Mendonca, DySP Sajith, circle inspector Lingappa, SI Prakash Devadiga visited the spot and investigated the case.
The girl's family have also complained to the women and child rights committee chief Asha Nayak.
