Bangalore, Nov 12: Former chief minister and KJP chief Yeddyurappa has written to the state home minister K J George urging to provide him Z-grade security. He has expressed anguish at chief minister Siddaramaiah for not providing suitable security to him.
The Z-grade security to him was stopped recently. He was given security only while in Bangalore and the security while touring the districts was also withdrawn.
He was provided Z-grade security even nine months after he ceased to be the chief minister. Police officer Sunil Kumar said that the security was given as there was intelligence report that there was a threat to his life. However, now that Yeddyurappa has no such threats, his Z-security was withdrawn.
Usually such security is provided to chief ministers, deputy chief ministers and home ministers only while in office. Z-security consists of a pilot vehicle in the front of their vehicle and two vehicles behind to guard them. Besides, the traffic comes to a standstill when a person with Z-security passes, says the police official.
However, Yeddyurappa has pleaded for Z-grade security in view of election campaign and naxal attacks. The home department has refused it and has provided only Y-grade security to him.
