Mumbai, Apr 4: The Mumbai police have seized a revolver and jewellery from a bank locker that was not being used for over 20 years.

Authorities at the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur's Fort Branch in Mumbai broke open a locker yesterday, in the presence of the police, as the person who had hired it had not paid his dues for the last 20 years, and had not operated the locker for a long time, the police said.

The locker No. 37 was hired by one R S Gill, who had given his address as 326, New Town, Faridkot, in the bank documents. The locker was hired by Gill on March 11, 1985, and had not been used till April 3 this year.

The bank authorities, who did not get any response to their communication to Gill at his postal address, decided to break it open.

On breaking open the locker, the police and the bank authorities found a Smith and Wesson revolver and a cardboard box that contained 11 precious stones embedded in gold, a gold necklace, two stone pendents, and an earring.

The police seized the items and said the address provided by the hirer was being verified and investigations would be made to find details of the person.

The police suspect that the locker could have been hired by suspected Punjab terrorists, who have either disappeared or have been killed in police action over the years.

In a similar case, the police seized firearms and explosives allegedly of Punjab terrorists from a bank locker in Bandra a few months ago.
