Lucknow, Nov 11 (IANS): State government employees in Uttar Pradesh will go on strike Tuesday, an office bearer of the employees union said Monday.
The agitation will be led by the Rajya Karmachari Sanyukt Parishad which has been demanding pay at par with central government employees. The union has now decided to proceed with the strike after several failed rounds of talks with the state government.
Over 16 lakh employees are likely to take part in the strike which could cripple the state machinery completely. An employee leader, slamming the state government led by Akhilesh Yadav, said they were tired of deadlines and hollow promises and would only withdraw after some tangible action on their demands.
About 200 employees unions have extended support to the strike.
Employee leader Hari Kishore Tiwari said the strike was on and they were ready for any action by the government. They will fight it tooth and nail.
"Many times in the past, we made efforts to press our 15-point charter but nothing has happened, hence we are left with no option" he told IANS.
