Guwahati, Nov 10 (IANS): A mother rhino and her calf were killed in Assam's Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park in Darrang district, officials said Sunday.
Their carcasses were recovered during routine patrol by the forest guards Sunday. The poachers had taken away the horn of the bigger rhino.
This is the second incident of rhino killing in the park, the officials said. The first rhino was killed last week.
The park used to be known as the only "zero poaching" protected areas of Assam -- until last week.
Spread over 78.81 sq km, the park in Orang has close to a hundred rhinos as per a census of last year.
Close to 30 rhinos had been killed by poachers in Assam this year including at least 23 in the Kaziranga National Park, three in the Manas National Park and one in the Pobitara wildlife sanctuary.
