Media Release
Dubai – Nov 10: With the conclusion of year long Silver Jubilee celebrations Mangalore Konkans Dubai – UAE’s premier organization affiliated to the Indian Mission, to have come up with a new concept of helping the needy – specially serving/supporting section of people who are more precious to humanity and those elderly usually forgotten.
Mangalore Konkans – Dubai have created history by taking the lead in providing continuous support to poor students for higher education, timely medical assistance to poor deserving patients by creating sustainable channel of funds through notable institutions, and other worthy causes in and around Konkan Region since the Past 25 years.
The new concept has been ideally named this mission as - ‘FIRE OR BENEVOLENCE’ and have already lit the lamp of Benevolence on 25th October 2013 in commemoration of their Silver Jubilee.
Introduction:
To ignite the fire of kindness within by giving and sharing what Mangalore Konkans – Dubai have decided to support destitute aged and sick in charitable institutions in and around Mangalore, through cumulative trust fund, being administered by them.
Background:
There are many top class Old Age Homes creeping up all over India providing up-market facilities to the rich, well to do and affordable elderly. Sadly the life of Underprivileged, Widows, Childless or Poor who starve and wait for a decent meal, shelter, basic medical care, and most importantly little love, care, psychological and emotional support as they linger around. Unlike Western countries, in India in the absence of adequate support systems, elderly People are at times ignored by their families, neglected, denied their basic rights, abused and even murdered. Many do not have shelter, resorting to sleep in neighbor’s house, bus/railway stations, and sometimes even in graveyards. Their wisdom, capabilities and feelings are the same as the rich but only difference is, they are helpless; cannot afford or no one is around them during the final journey of their life.
It is ironic to note that they happen to have lived post wars and had to sacrifice everything they had, in upbringing their children (if they had any) and providing education to them. Indeed we are lucky to be in this generation, where we have been provided with decent education enabling us to lead better lives, educate our children but our children will not be aware of the sacrifices done by the generation before us. Therefore it is our duty to begin charity at home by sowing the seed of ‘Benevolence’ through our children.
Well, one cannot uplift the mass but can make a difference! Even if we care for one Elderly Person by sacrificing a little luxury from what we are blessed with from above, we can make a difference to a life!
Stephan Grellet rightly said : “ I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again”
