Mangalore, Nov 9: A state-wide protest will be held if the Anti-Superstition Bill is passed in the coming winter session of the state Assembly, warned Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Satyajeet Suratkal, addressing a press meet here on Saturday, November 9.
"The Hindu Jagarana Vedike strongly condemns this act of the Congress-led state government in getting ready to declare the religious practices of the Hindus as superstitions and pass the Anti-Superstition Bill to curb them," he said.
"With this Bill, the anti-Hindu Congress government together with a few so-called intelligent people is trying to hurt the sentiments of the Hindu majority and stop them from observing their religious practices and rituals," he lashed out.
"The Hindu community has been living with certain faith, beliefs, rituals and practices. This Congress government is trying to play with the sentiments of the Hindus. Rituals, beliefs, practices are things that are subject to an individual. It is indeed a shame that the government is poking its nose into these matters," he said.
"Hindu Jagarana Vedike will not tolerate any oppression against the Hindus. If at all this Anti-Superstition Bill is passed in the session, then the Hindu Jagarana Vedike will hold a state-wide protest," he warned.
"Just these Bills or laws cannot control everything. But a few anti-social elements or practices can be stopped or changed through social awareness," he added.
Vasudeva Gowda, Ganapathi Bangera, Kishore Kumar and Subash Padil were present.
