Shajapur/Ujjain, Nov 7 (HT): A Congress leader died after consuming poison in Agar, 80 km north of Indore, on Thursday after he was allegedly denied a ticket by the party to contest elections from the reserved assembly constituency.
Narsingh Malviya, a former zila panchayat member, was said to be depressed after he found his name missing in the Congress's candidate list for Agar. The party has fielded Madhu Ghelot in Agar, which recently became the 51st district of the state. Malviya had been with the Congress for over two decades and was its Agar district secretary.
Sources in the local Congress unit said Malviya had been disturbed for past few days after the candidate list was announced. He had complained to his friends that he felt betrayed because he was assured of a ticket. This morning he went to a temple and consumed poison. He was found lying in unconscious and was taken to a hospital in Ujaiin where he died.
Madhya Pradesh goes to polls on November 25.
