Delhi, Nov 6: MP for Jaunpur Dhananjay Singh and his wife Dr Jagriti Singh have been remanded to five days in police custody following the death of their servant whose body revealed severe injuries, late on Monday. The couple were arrested on Tuesday from their residence.

The constant domestic violence and repeated confinement meted to the help was reported on television. The brutally assaulted, deceased domestic was named to be 35 year old Rakhi Bhadra.

Judge Dhirak Mittal opined that their offences were of a serious nature. The MP is being held in relation to two more unrelated murder charges and for allegedly tampering with evidence in the form of 20 camera recordings that were installed in their residence. A juvenile maid employed in their household testified to Dr Jagriti Singh's violent streak by telling the horrific tale of how the departed maid was beaten with sticks, burnt with hot iron rods and kicked repeatedly. The maid's dead body corroborated the statement by revealing massive injuries to the head, stomach and chest. The witness further revealed that these punishments were meted out on the smallest of issues.

Dr Jagriti Singh is Dhananjay Singh's second wife and they are all set to divorce soon. The MP said that he was in his constituency at the time of the incident and therefore uninvolved in the matter.
