Dikshit endorses Congress' stand on opinion polls

New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday supported the Congress's demand for banning opinion polls, questioning the basis of such exercise.

"I completely support the party's view on opinion polls. What is the basis of conducting such survey (opinion polls) when manifestos and nominations for party tickets have not been declared?" Dikshit asked during an interaction with media persons here.

The Congress party has pressed for banning opinion polls ahead of the elections to assemblies in five states after the Election Commission elicited the views of all political parties on whether results of opinion polls should be restricted.

Various opinion polls have predicted drubbing for the Congress in poll-bound states.

Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh will go to polls in November-December. The results will be declared between Dec 8-9.
