Lucknow, Nov 4 (IANS): Police used canes to disperse an irate mob in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh Monday after it blocked traffic and stoned security personnel over the killing of a youth, officials said.
Police officials said unidentified men shot three youngsters Sunday night after their motorcycle rammed into a car.
While one youth died of gun shot wounds, two other were seriously injured.
Angry over the killing, angry villagers blocked traffic at Roorkee Road and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and compensation for the family of the deceased.
Police tried to persuade them to lift the blockade but the crowds resented instead attacked the police.
Heavy reinforcements were rushed to the spot after which police used canes to disperse the protesters. In retaliation, people attacked police personnel.
Muzaffarnagar witnessed one of the worst bouts of communal violence in September which left 63 people dead and over 43,000 homeless.
