New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Thursday asked the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to explain the death of a youth who was allegedly beaten by its personnel in Durg district of Chhattisgarh.
"The commission has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that a youth died due to fatal injuries inflicted on him by Central Industrial Security Force personnel at the Bhilai Steel Plant," said a statement from NHRC.
"If true, this raises a serious issue of violation of human rights of victim and it issued notices to the director general, CISF and the superintendent of police, Durg, Chhattisgarh calling for reports within four weeks," it added.
"According to media reports, Rajendra Yadav, 28, was caught by CISF personnel on the intervening night of Oct 25-26 on suspicion of committing theft at the Bhilai Steel Plant," it further added.
He was brutally thrashed, resulting in fatal injuries. Subsequently, they admitted him to a hospital, where he died, the commission said.
