Hamirpur (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 30 (IANS): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi attacked the Uttar Pradesh government for not transforming the backward region of Bundelkhand into a Bangalore.
The Congress party had anticipated a crowd of 100,000 at Gandhi's rally at Hamirpur, 148 km from Lucknow. But local officials said there were only 30,000 people.
In his speech, the Gandhi scion said the Congress wanted to create an environment in Uttar Pradesh where people had jobs and did not have to go to Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore in quest of employment.
Referring to the Right to Information (RIT), Gandhi said this was a gift from the Congress to the people and it helped expose corruption.
He said only the Congress was concerned about the common people and urged them, specially the youths and women, to support the party.
Delving on the backward state of Bundelkhand region, Gandhi said he wanted to connect the region with the US.
"You should ask your government why they have not transformed Bundelkhand into Bangalore?"
Gandhi targeted the Samajwadi Party government in the state, alleging that all the funds the central government sent disappeared by them time they reached Uttar Pradesh.
"All this will not change until you vote for the Congress."
