Mangalore: Accident on Netravati bridge throws traffic into disarray

Mangalore, Oct 30: An accident between a lorry and a bus on NH 66 at Netravati bridge created a traffic gridlock that last for more than three hours.

The accident took place at around 7 am on Wednesday October 30 due to which the vehicular movement was blocked on both sides of the bridge.

As it was rush hour, students and office-goers were the most affected. Some of the commuters made the situation worse by trying to sneak into whatever space was available.
 
Later Ullal and Mangalore rural police arrived at the spot and cleared the traffic.

    I travel daily in this highway.... oh god... so much of dust.... heavy traffic jam. if the CORRUPTION will stop india will get the best Roads in the World (and hoping soon)

    to avoid this kind of block on nethravathi bridge 2 towing vehicles can be kept on either side of the brige. any kind of accidents/ malfunctining of vehicles these can be used for removing those vehicles. let the officials collect 1 rupee from each vehicle passing through the bridge as maintanence cost of this towing vans. secondly the mind set of us have to be changed . we should always follow the lane rules, instead of sneaking in and causing the block.

    This is not the first time it has happened. there were numerous jams in the last three months.though the rains have stopped the pace of the highway work is not yet picked up.

    This is hardly surprising.Over the recent years, traffic along NH17 has been rising rapidly, aggravated by the aggressively driven Kerala transport buses coming from Kasargod etc.One bridge over the Netravathi River is over half a century old.Another parallel bridge has remained under construction for oVer ten years.administation in Bengaluru think Karnataka only means Bengaluru.Will someone really wake up and take necessary measures before more serious problems happen?

    This is a daily routine problem. It takes nearly an hour to cross thokottu to pumpwell. So called MP of mangalore is least concerned about this issue

    This happens once in every month. But don't come in news.... Fed up with this....More problem is for Ambulance which come from Kerala to Mangalore...The progress in bridge work is very very slow..Authorities should seriously need to look into this ASAP.

    This news is not new as it happens due to the worst bridge road in the world. Accidents do happen due to recklessness and time factor. What is our powerful central minister having same ministry under him hailing from Udupi doing. Projects in Mangalore are getting ped or in slow progress citing various reasons. These VIPs get first preference on right of way even when residents of Mangalore have to negotiate traffic in Nanthur, Bikarnakatte/Kaikamba, Kulur and ullal.

    Accidents on Netravati Bridge always create a huge traffic jam. This is just because of the worst condition of the road. These days everyday there is traffic problems in Mangalore, due to high number of vehicles & very bad roads. Ullal to Mangalore highway is the pathetic & accident prone road, so drivers have to take care while driving on these pat hole filled roads. Hope that new Bridge will get ready soon for driving & it will be easy for all the commuters. Jai ho Mangalore...
