Kushinagar, (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 30 (NDTV): Four policemen have been suspended in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly thrashing two woman in a police station and dragging one of them by her hair, an act of brutality that was caught on camera.

The women, who are sisters, had reportedly tried to stop the police from beating their brother at a police station in Kushinagar. They had allegedly been brought to the station over a land dispute.

Four constables allegedly beat the sisters and dragged one of them to the road by her hair.

"I wanted to file a complaint but the policemen beat me brutally, they pulled my hair," said one of the sisters.

Visuals of the incident reinforced the view that the police in Akhilesh Yadav's Uttar Pradesh are an unchecked force, given to excesses.

Minister of State for Home Minister, RPN Singh, tweeted, "Deplorable incident of policemen beating 2 women inside station in Kushinagar. Mere suspension not enough,should be strictest possible action."

A senior police officer from Kushinagar admitted that the constables had attacked the women.

"There was a dispute regarding a land deal. The police had arrested some people and brought them to the police station. Some women were also a part of it. Some police officials started misbehaving with them. A complaint has been registered and all 4 constables have been suspended," said Lalit Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Kushinagar.

In May, a woman cop slapped several women who had come to a police station in Aligarh to demand the release of their children detained in a case of theft. Her brutality was captured on camera.
