Mangalore: Eric Correa to be honoured with Pingara Rajyotsava Award

Mangalore, Oct 29: Eric Alfred Correa, the philanthropist who has built 98 houses for the poor, will be honoured with the Pingara Kannada Rajyotsava Award - 2013, said Roy Castelino, convener of the award selection committee, addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, October 29.
This is the 9th annual award ceremony organized by Pingara Weekly. Nearly 20 eligible applications have been received and the selection committee has chosen Eric Correa for the Pingara Kannada Rajyotsava Award- 2013, he said.
Eric Alfred Correa runs a firm that gives generators on rent and along with this business, he purchases land, builds houses and donates them to the needy, irrespective of caste, creed and religion. His projects Souharda Nagar I and II have provided housing to several needy families. Eric had singlehandedly built and donated 34 houses to some of the poorest in Souhardha Nagar in Padumarnadu village in Moodibidri 2012. He followed it up with the second project wherein 31 houses were donated to the poor at Puthige Village in Paladka in phase 1 of the project in April this year.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Roy Castelino, Harikrishna Punaroor, Fr William Menezes, Srikar Prabhu, Rohan Monteiro, C G Pinto, Dr B G Suvarna, Elias Fernandes, Ramakrishna R and Elroy Kiran Crasta were the mebers of the selection committee.
The earlier awardees are Jaya C Suvarna in 2012, Harikrishna Punaroor in 2011, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project in 2010, Mandd Sobhann in 2009, Grace Pinto in 2008, Daijiworld.com in 2007, Dr Mohan Alva in 2006 and rural reporter Kunchady Dayanand Pai Karkala in 2005, said Roy Castelino.
The award ceremony will be held on November 26 at 5 pm at Town Hall, he added.
Pingara editor Raymond D'Cunha, and award committee members Fr William Menezes and Sunil D’Cunha were present.
