Panaji, Mar 26: The last day of the state legislative assembly session last week witnessed noisy scenes over a congratulatory motion moved by Congress legislator, Ravi Naik, congratulating UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi over her decision to resign as MP and chairperson of national advisory council.
The noisy scenes began in the house when leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar was not allowed to speak on the motion and speaker Fransisco Sardinha tried to pass the motion unanimously.
The BJP legislators, who comprise majority of opposition benches, began shouting slogans walked into the well forcing speaker to adjourn the house for half an hour.
"The motion can be passed unanimously as we are not supporting it. We want to put our views on record," Parrikar told the speaker. But his request was in vain.
The Speaker, on the other hand, said that he would put the motion to vote, if oppositions do not want it to be unanimous. The opposition benches, however, continued their sloganeering and disrupted the proceedings of the house.
Earlier, speaking on the motion, Congress legislator Ravi Naik, who is also a Goa Pradesh Congress committee president, appreciated Ms Gandhi's decision terming it as an example which should be emulated by people's representatives.
