Mangalore: Protest in Neermarga over atrocities against community

Mangalore, Oct 28: A big protest was organized at Neermarga here by the Hindu Samrakshana Samiti, Neermarga division on Monday, October 28 against the atrocities meted out by some elements belonging to another community, especially in connection to the recent clashes wherein nine persons were injured.
A protest march from Baithurli to Neermarga junction was held prior to the meet. Leaders and activists of various organizations took part in the protest march.
Addressing the gathering, main speaker Kuntaru Ravish Tantri, the chief of Hindu Unity Forum lashed out at those instigating communal violence and expressed fears that the police were not doing their duty efficiently, especially in connection to the Mallur incident.
In a highly inflammatory speech, Tantri urged the people to protect themselves from attackers and said that those who instigate violence in the name of religion do not even know the basics of their own holy book.
He called upon religious leaders to guide the youth and prevent them from taking the wrong path.
In his address, VHP leader Jagadish Shenava urged the police department to arrest the culprits behind the Mallur incident. "If the police fail to catch the real culprits, we will go and stage a dharna inside the police stations," he warned.
Prakash Alva Mallur, president of Hindu Samrakshana Samiti, Sharan Pumpwell, convener of Bajrang Dal and Kumar Malemar, convener of Sri Rama Sene also spoke on the occasion and protested against the increase in atrocities on the community in the last few months.
Subhash Padil, convener of Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV), Jeevan Neermarga, convener of Hindu Samrakshana Vedike, Bhujanga Kulal of VHP and Veerappa Moodushedde of Hindu Yuva Sene were present on the dais.
Hundreds took part in the protest. Tight police security was deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident.
