New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS): Four unidentified people riding two motorcycles looted Rs.90 lakh from a cash collection van at gunpoint from the Damodar Park area of east Delhi Monday afternoon, police said.
The incident occurred around 2.15 p.m. The van was parked near a wine shop in Damodar Park area in east Delhi when the four men took the vehicle's guard hostage.
"The accused were wearing helmets. They kept the van's guard Sukhbir hostage. One of the custodians of the cash, Mahesh Chand, and the vehicle's driver Ranjeet were held at gunpoint. The men fled with the cash trunk, which at the time had approximately Rs.90 lakh in it," a police officer said.
The van had been parked outside the wine shop as one of the people in the vehicle had gone to collect cash from the shop, an officer said.
The police officer said the men involved in the crime also snatched the gun that the van's guard held.
The cash van was part of the fleet of vehicles owned by CMS cash collection company. It left east Delhi's Patparganj office around 10.30 a.m. and arrived at Damodar Park after collecting cash from 22 different places, including a petrol pump and some private companies.
