Chennai, Mar 25: Coming down strongly on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for her remarks on Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s resignation over the office of profit issue, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said Gandhi by her action had set high political standard as compared to the "adamant litigant nature of Jayalalithaa".
Referring to Jayalalithaa’s charge on Friday that the resignation was a political drama, Chidambaram in a statement in Chennai said the remarks only betrayed her "strong hatred" towards Gandhi.
He said there were difference of opinions on the question of office of profit and even before it was being settled, Gandhi had resigned from the Lok Sabha and from the chairmanship of National Advisory Council to set high standards in politics.
One should compare her resignation with the adamant litigant nature of Jayalalithaa, he said.
Despite the rejection of Jayalalithaa’s nominations during the last Assembly polls, AIADMK went ahead with electing her as the leader of its legislature party leading to the Supreme Court declaring her appointment as chief minister as unconstitutional, he said adding the apex court decision was unprecedented in the country.
People were the final judges and Sonia Gandhi would be re-elected to Lok Sabha from Rai Bareli once again, he said adding the people would then realize Jayalalithaa’s apathy towards Gandhi.
