Bahrain: Konkani Kutam bids warm farewell to Richard Moras

Bahrain, Oct 27: The members of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain bid farewell to their long serving convener Richard Moras during their annual general body meeting held at Konkan Singers Club on Friday October 25.

Henry Almeida, senior member of executive committee and a long serving supporter of Konkani Kutam was unanimously elected as the new convener.

In his speech, Henry Almeida thanked Moras for his dedication, selfless service and determination to preserve Konkani language and culture and said Richard Moras was instrumental in carrying the association during many difficult times and had been a great friend for him.

Later Konkani Kutam members honored Richard Moras and his wife Joyce Moras with memorabilia.

Richard Moras in his farewell speech thanked every member of the Konkani Kutam and all the supporters and well wishers of Bahrain. He also remembered the people who stood and workedalongside him in building and developing the association. He quoted a song from Wilfy Rebimbus highlighting the significance of promoting Konkani wherever we work or live.

Konkan Singers Club, the other prominent club in Bahrain also honoured Richard Moras during the event with memorabilia, shawl, and flowers. The president of Konkan Singers Club Walter Noronha and other executive committee members thanked Moras for his service.

Later committee member Stany D’Souza informed the gathering the accomplishments of Konkani Kutam since its inception 14 years ago. They include the Konkani Kutam Award which is being given to the noted achiever in the field of literature, music or culture/drama since 2001.

The Konkani Kutam executive committee members Henry Almeida, Ronald Fernandes, Stany D’Souza, Walter Noronha and Sanjay Sequeira were present during the event.

President of Kannada Sangha Bahrain Raj Kumar was also present.

    dramatists and other artistes.As a founder convener of Konkani Kutam,

    Konkani writers,journalists, newspapers, periodicals and institutions.

    Undoubtedly the State of Bahrain going to loose a finest Konkani personality Richard Moras. Without expecting any personal glory this man has slogged to enrich not only his mother tongue Konkani but equally dedicated his life for his state language Kannada.
