Another haul: Gold worth Rs 14.62 lac seized at Mangalore Airport

Mangalore, Oct 26: For the fourth time in three days, the customs officials at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday October 26 arrested a passenger for trying to smuggle in gold from Dubai.
The arrested passenger is identified as Mohammed Arshad (38), a resident Kalanad, Kasargod.
He arrived by Air India Express flight on Saturday morning from Dubai.
The gold, weighing 457.05 grams, worth Rs 14.62 lac, was in the form of wires coated with silver. The wires were concealed in the form of piping in the hem of a plastic cover used for packing quilt. The gold found in the piping weighed 153.2 grams.
The remaining 303.85 grams of gold wires were found concealed inside the handle of a frying pan.
The officials discovered the gold when Arshad's luggage passed through the scanner, sources said.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
On Thursday, the customs officials caught two passengers in separate incidents with total 2.45 kg of gold, and on Friday, a passenger was caught smuggling 2.5 kg of gold worth Rs 80.5 lac.
