Bantwal: New facilities, mega camp inaugurated at Father Muller Hospital, Thumbay

Bantwal, Oct 26: The inauguration of new facilities and mega health checkup camp, organized by the Father Muller Medical Institutions in association with Lions and Lioness Club Bantwal, at Father Muller Hospital, Thumbay, here, was held on Saturday October 26.

B Ramanath Rai, district in-charge minister and minister for forest, ecology and environment inaugurated the CT scanner, X-ray and the lab auto analysis. All the new equipments were blessed by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop, Mangalore Diocese.

A formal stage function was held on the occasion. All the dignitaries on the dais lit the auspicious lamp and inaugurated the mega health check up camp.

B Ramanath Rai was the chief guest for the occasion. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the programme. B Ahmed Hajee Mohiuddeen, founder and chairman, B A Group Thumbay was the guest of honour. S J Acharya, president of Lions club Bantwal, Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director FMCI, Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, administrator FMMC, Dr J P Alva, dean FMMC and Fr Richard Coelho, administrator FMMCH were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, B Ramanath Rai said that Father Muller Medical Charitable Institutions is an institution which has been serving the people since many years. All the health facilities which are introduced here is a great contribution to the health sector. I congratulate FMCI and Lions Club for organizing the health camp and taking an initiative in contributing towards having a healthier society.”

In his presidential address, Bishop said, “CT scanner, X-ray and lab auto analyzer have been inaugurated today. Through these facilities Father Mullers has given a great gift to the society. All these facilities are introduced to provide best facilities to the people.”

“Just like good education is required, in the same way good health care facilities is also required. Thumbay being a rural area should also have all the advanced facilities. Only intention behind this is to serve and to cater to the needs of the people,” he added.

B Hajee Mohuideen and S J Acharya also spoke on the occasion. He requested the people to make good use of the camp and the facilities given to them by Father Muller Institutions.

On the occasion, a workshop on environmental issue was also organized for the public and students.

    I remember my childhood days going to a British built tiled roof Govt. Hospital prescribe and give some red medicine for fever.Doctor used to come from close by quarters provided to him used come at exactly 10.AM and sit a place provided for him in portico of the hospital with one table and a chair and for patients benches around the table.
    Since there was no electricity no fan a hand pulled fan above the head of the doctor was provided to him with a man pulling to and fro to bring down some cooling breeze to the doctors head.
    I wish good luck to Fr Muller's Charitable trust providing the modern facility to the people around Bantwal who can reach to the nearest place for medical treatment.Hope more philanthropist/Samaritans offer more technical support to this hospital to match services with Mangalore city hospitals.

    Father Muller Hospital has been giving service since so many years. I remember when I went for leg swelling check up with a Capuchin brother Peter in 1973-74. Many patients are coming from all over Karnataka & Kerala for treatment. Recently a couple came from Sirsi when a lady was unconscious. Opening a branch in Thumbay is a big step and benefit for the patients of Bantwal & nearby area. Such branches in crowded areas like Udupi & Moodbidri are highly encouraged. I do not want people to get sick but treatment is must for all.

    Father Muller's has come a long way ever since the Venture was started in a small way Father Augustus Muller over one hundred thirty years ago. Father Muller has come a along been helping the sick and the ailing essentially in The City of Mangalore - of course with some outreach programmes too. However the acquisition of the hospital in Thumbe is a step in the right direction which will greatly help the people in the rural areas. It is good to see that Our Bishop Aloysius has made it convenient to be present at the function in Thumbe and that is is kind of Sri Ramnath Rai to be present at the event.
    Several decades ago Father Muller had the services of Dr. Venkat Rao - basically a surgeon but he was a man for all and surgeon and physician combined. On the other side there was Doctor modi a well known and well accepted physician and he was particularly in demand by the clergy and the religious. What is good to see today is that we have two wonderful people who play similar roles - Dr. Rai and and Dr. Alva. These two doctors are rendering yeomen services to the public. It is good to see that father Patrick Rodrigeus equiped knowledge and experience is guiding and directing the team of dedicated people. He is ably assisted by father Richard Coelho, Father Rudolph D'Sa, Father Vincent Saldanha and Father Roshan Crasta.
    I join scores of people in saluting Father Mullers for the dedicated services to the people of Dakshina Kanada and particularly to the poor.
