Udupi: Martyrs remembered on ‘Police Commemoration Day’

Udupi, Oct 22:
A programme was held to pay tribute to the martyrs of the police department and the district armed reserve police on the occasion of ‘Police Commemoration Day’ on Monday October 21 at Chandu Maidan.
 
M T Reju, deputy commissioner of Udupi, Dr Boralingaiah M B IPS, SP Udupi, Santosh Kumar, additional SP, Annamalai, Karkala DYSP, and Dr Prabhudeva Mane, Udupi DYSP, along with others acknowledged the selfless service of the martyrs.

Dr Boralingaiah said, “In Karnataka, 19 policemen lost their lives this year. One was a sub inspector, seven were head constables, and 11 were constables of which one was from Udupi named Bhaskar Kulal.”
 
“In India, this year, 577 policemen were killed on duty,” he added.
 
DC Reju said, “In society, policemen and teachers are the only two respectful fields which abide by the law and impart law and order.”
 
“Policemen are bound to work for the welfare of the society as it is their duty to do so,” he added.
 
A parade was conducted under the guidance of deputy police inspector Umesh P and open air gun salutes were sounded as homage to the brave policemen who laid down their lives during service.
