New Delhi, Oct 20 : Aam Admi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has clarified that he does not have anything against New Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit of Congress or BJP president of Delhi unit Vijay Goel. But he has stressed that his party's fight is against the system that supports corruption. "Corruption and corrupt people are our enemies," Kejriwal declared during an interview with an English periodical in New Delhi recently.
"We did lots of homework before deciding to jump into politics. A few members were against the idea of creating a political party and contesting the polls, but many were in favour of the idea. To fight against corruption we need to enter into the system, otherwise one cannot eradicate corruption," he opined.
Kejriwal is jubiliant after pre-poll survey showed that AAP is playing an instrumental role in forming the New Delhi government. "The survey conducted by our own party has projected us bagging 28% of vote shares which is ahead of both BJP and Congress. In the coming days, our tally will improve and we will form the government in Delhi," said a confident Kejriwal.
"AAP will follow a very strict policy while selecting the candidate for assembly polls. We will do a secret study about the candidate. The candidate must be clean without any criminal records. We will also ensure that the candidate does not have extra-marital affairs. We invite applications from interested people, and seek votes from our own party workers. So the candidates will be selected in a purely democratic way."
Kejriwal feels that Anna Hazare and Kiran Bedi should have joined the party to strengthen it further. Though he is in regular touch with both, he feels they are unlikely to join the political party.
"Even I was against joining politics, but the current system has forced me to change my thinking. If we have to fight for the right cause then we must get into the system and fight. Without being a politician you can't get into the system," he said.
Kejriwal does not have a good opinion about former Army General V K Singh who is now planning to join the BJP. "He came to us once, I had high regards for him because he exposed the army's Tetra scam. I thought he would be useful to us in our fight against corruption. But his intentions were bad. To join BJP, he followed us and Anna Hazare. He travelled across the country along with Anna Hazare for the sole reason that Anna was speaking against the UPA. I personally feel that V K Singh is an opportunist, and I am really angry about it."
Though opinion polls predict a good show by AAP, Kejriwal feels that opinion polls must be banned once the poll code of conduct is announced. Pre-poll surveys could make a big difference in voters' minds, he opined.
